Cermet is a structural material composed of ceramic hard phase and metal or alloy bonding phase. Cermets, from the English word Cermets, is composed of Ceramic and Metal. Ceramics not only maintain the characteristics of high strength, high hardness, wear resistance, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and chemical stability, but also have good metal toughness and plasticity. Since there is no clear boundary between the two terms of "cermet" and "cemented carbide", it is difficult to divide the boundary between specific materials. From the perspective of the composition of materials, "cemented carbide" should be classified as "cermet", and Ie. Campbell classified "cemented carbide" as "cermet".

The development course of tool materials was summarized in the lecture, and the importance and trend of cermet tools in the current economic development of China were expounded. The performance and material performance requirements of cermet tools and their main influencing factors are analyzed in detail. This paper introduces Chengdu meisherui new material co., LTD., which specializes in high performance cermet materials, and the design ideas of various cermet tool materials and tool processing, as well as the basic mechanical properties of the high performance cermet tool materials. The hardness of the fabricated cermet tool material is in the range of Hra91.2 ~92.5, the bending strength is in the range of 2400MPa~3000MPa, and the fracture toughness measured by bending method is in the range of 11.7~13.8MPa. M1/2. In particular, the cermet tool materials produced show high red hardness, showing a good application prospect. At the same time, based on the high wear resistance of cermet material, more flexible bonding phase, high red hardness and other characteristics, a special cermet bonded phase diamond grinding wheel for cermet tool grinding was developed, and the optimized processing technology and grinding wheel process parameters were given.
